Severe asthma

Millions of people in Europe suffer from uncontrolled serious asthma symptoms, and every year thousands of people die from the disease.

Severe symptoms such as chest tightness and breathlessness affect around six million people in Europe, impacting on life both at work and at home.

Exclusion from work, physical activity, traffic congested areas, and even public space where the right to smoke is tolerated, can affect personal well-being and undermine the ability of people with asthma to take control of the condition.

A severe attack is a terrifying experience, which can lead to emergency hospitalisation and even death for 12,000 Europeans a year.

In the majority of cases, severe asthma symptoms should be manageable but, for around 1.2 million people in Europe, current treatment approaches are not sufficient enough.
